Classrooms, teachers progress - Help Madina asked if I was up for helping convert an old church in

Sierra Leone into a school as children were struggling to learn after the sun went down due to the lack

of electric lighting in the area. I jumped at the opportunity working with my brother Jack Bestwick and

James Eden to help deliver one of the most rewarding projects I have ever worked on.

Working with the local community, the old church walls were refurbished and improved for security,

the floor painted in a playful hexagon pattern and the wall murals reinstated. 

Tables and benches for studying were made and the roof now hosts an array of solar panels providing the children with lighting in the evenings. Using rammed earth as the primary building material, a small annex with toilets was also provided.
